About Loco-Foco
Loco-Foco Press is an independent publishing company founded by C. Bradley Thompson in 2023. The name “Loco-Foco” refers to a radical political movement in New York City during the 1830s and 1840s, formed by working-class men and reformers who supported a free society defined by individual rights, constitutional government, laissez-faire capitalism, and abolitionism. The word “Loco-Foco” originated with “loco-foco” matches (self-igniting matches), which combines the Latin “loco,” meaning “self-generated,” with the Italian “fuoco,” meaning “fire,” symbolizing independent thought and initiative.
In the spirit of the Loco-Foco movement, Loco-Foco Press is dedicated to publishing the works of independent writers who value the principles and institutions of a free society. Loco-Foco Press will primarily publish books on history, philosophy, culture, politics, and economics, and it is particularly interested in publishing books that explore new and old ideas, and sometimes controversial ones. We encourage debate and disputation amongst our writers and readers in the pursuit of truth and wisdom. Loco-Foco Press will also republish “forgotten classics” in American moral, political, constitutional, and economic thought.
